Aboveground Systems LLC’s new lifestyle application Food Cop: NYC Edition has now been submitted to Apple’s App Store for publishing.
So what’s Food Cop? Well, with the gazillions of restaurants in NYC, there’s no way of knowing whether the place you’re going to eat at is clean, or if there are rats scurrying over your plate of meatballs.
That’s where Food Cop comes in. Food Cop does a look up on the restaurant of interest, and can give you what violations are documented against the establishment, as well as their instpection scores. A score of 28 and under is passing, though the higher the number, the more violations there are. If a restaurant has a score of more than 28, then the place gets shut down til the inspections are cleared.
Food Cop:NYC Edition allows you to search for restaurants by way of name, by zip code, or even better, it helps you find your zip code wherever you are, so you can see what restaurants are in the area, and how they rate on the number of violations they’re cited for.
Food Cop:NYC Edition is the first of forthcoming assistants to help you find the best places to go eat. Food Cop:NYC Edition is based on official restaurant inspections data. The NYC Edition gathers data for all 5 boroughs of NYC, including Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island and the Bronx.
Not only will Food Cop:NYC Edition show you the score of the restaurant inspection, but it will also show you which specific violations were observed. Find out if the food you’ve been eating was handled incorrectly, whether or not there’s rats, mice or roaches running around your dish before it hits your table.
